Prof. Bell Wins Award from The Franklin Institute

Congratulations to Prof. Bell! She is the winner of the 2025 Benjamin Franklin NextGen Award from The Franklin Institute.

For two centuries, The Franklin Institute Awards has paid tribute to America’s first citizen scientist, Benjamin Franklin, by honoring great minds in science, engineering, and industry, including Nikola Tesla, Marie and Pierre Curie, Thomas Edison, Max Planck, Albert Einstein, etc.  Since 2021, the Benjamin Franklin NextGen Award has been presented annually to an early-career investigator for a transformative discovery, development, innovation, or invention in science or engineering. Dr. Bell is being recognized “for her contributions to the novel design of medical imaging systems involving ultrasound and light that make robotic and non-robotic guided surgery safer and more effective.”

The following video was created for the general public to get to know Prof. Bell as she shares something on her bucket list, advice for aspiring scientists, a fun science fact, and more!

Beginning April 29, the Franklin Institute will present a series of Awards Week events, including the 2025 Franklin Institute Awards Ceremony and Dinner, which will be live streamed on May 1, 2025 at 7pm. Earlier that day, Dr. Bell will present a public lecture.
